Thanksgiving Trip and Why Toronto is a great place
2007-11-28 21:44:17 Just came back from another great thanksgiving trip from Toronto. Personally from my many trips to Toronto, I really think I like it more than the US. Why? -People are just more chilled out and friendly. Where I am in USA it's hostile, peace -Food, multiculturalism makes it great -My uncle said the US is a melting pot, you have to melt first like a chocolate chip cookie. In Toronto, you're in a salad bowl, be yourself. -Got a few brothers up there I could trust, I don't call them friends, they're brothers cause they are there when you need them. Knowing a ton of ppl ain't brotherhood or friendship, it's acquaintanceship. -Health care, just watch SICKO alright.
Peace
NYC - Special Style Sex Machine Crew 07
2007-03-01 18:59:46 Decided to go down to NYC since a few of my dance crew members from HK came up, and it seemed to be too good of a trip to refuse. Like any other city, NYC seems to be really expensive, everything is in the multiples of and up. Changing this situation into a good one, my friends and I just kept looking for the best deals around town, it was a fun game in itself. The dance party I went to the first night was a great experience in itself, New Yorkers can dance. My crew and I credit a lot of influences from the evolution of New York style, so it was mind opening to see these bboys getting down and showing us these complex dance moves. Shopping was fun, as long as it was window shopping, stuff gets really expensive, especially the stuff that appeals to me, such as clothing in general. My friend who has stayed in NYC for quite some time took us around town to get graffiti hats from an artist, a hard time looking for him, but finally we came through, and the hat is just ill. Short highlights in the final days -dancing in the Grand Central Station concourse until the cops came and told us to stop. - eating for free because people were nice enough to treat us, 4 rounds of dimsum, fried rice, vegetables, japanese food, italian food -Chinatown, all these people lion dancing -streetshows - dancing, singing, more dancing -video footage -high quality/stylish hats for dollars -always having a place to stay, and people to host us. Big respects to them, and thanks for giving their respect to the crew's dancing and who we are. Peace
A typical Friday
2006-12-03 01:56:34 Fridays back in Hong Kong and NY would probably be the same for a typical student. Going to bars, getting some alcohol in your system, chill with your friends, watch a movie, etc.
I'm probably a real deviant cause I never thought of chilling at bars or having alcohol in my system as something to be done on a specific day like Friday. As I grew older, Fridays themselves have gone through its own share of changes. At this time in life, whether it'd be HK or NY, I would find myself going out with my crew members and practice the art of bboying (breakdancing for yall that dunno). Just to get better and I think it gives me way more joy than just getting drunk (which represents a huge majority at my school at least) On top of that, I mentor inner city children during the afternoons. Brings me great joy since my partner and I started this program this year. The children I teach come from poor backgrounds, but I see great potential in them , they have the ability to change their lives, and I'm gonna help them get there. How will you spend your Fridays?
Super Dope Show
2006-11-13 22:21:39 I've been saying dope a lot since I've started bboying (breakdancing) seriously.
This past weekend, our crew did a show for the Southeast Asian Student Association. Everything was on point and we really got the crowd excited. Its good to have that feeling when people really enjoy watching what you do. Esp when they shake your hands afterwards. Ps. the afterparty was real different, since they were playing mostly Southeast Asian beats, but it was interesting, still gotta dance. Peace out
ZERO GRAVITY 5
2006-10-02 01:09:42 Zero Gravity 5, an annual breakdance tournament held in upstate NY. Features 32 breakdance teams (2 on 2), Bgirl battles, Popping Battles, and Showcase Battles. I paired up with on of my crew mates and went at it. Being realistic about it, we just set our goals in beating at least one team.
I'll let the photos do the talking
Summer's Busy
2006-07-18 15:02:51 This summer so far has been quite productive and because of that its busy.
In terms of job/learning new stuff, i've been in this HSBC training program. Things that are being taught are quite complex, but I try to. In terms of making friends, I don't think it was hard at all. In fact, they're pretty cool, so i'll be in touch. In terms of bboying (breakdancing). I've participated in one jam, and have two big ones that are coming up, so as i said, practice practice practice. thanks for being a good listener, peace
Getting back
2006-05-16 10:45:04 Finally got back after a long plane ride.
Mad interesting though, i gotta meet a political scientist on the plane, we had a good conversation and he invited me to join him in the first class lounge, dope, peace Since I came back, I've been quick on my heels to meet all these ppl that I love, value, enjoy company with, share same interest, etc (the list goes on) mmm ok a quick runthrough of highlights of these four days, mmm long way to go -breakdanced on the streets with my long time good friend who only talked breakdancing with me when we were still in highschool. Got called off my the security, but it was still fun, bringing the dance back to its roots. -constant bballing, well the old team is back, so gotta keep taking names with em -meet up with my brothers, call em brothers cause they're really fantastic friends. Laughs, deep though, etc, makes you feel good about everything Peace, have a great summer
Advancement
2006-05-04 14:47:00 Its the time of the year, where students go back home, a time where they choose to waste time, or make use of it.
Summer holidays are approaching and I must say that I've learnt more in a year than most years spend of my life. In terms of personal accomplishments, it has been pretty awesome, it keeps me happy and a head full of enriching memories. I see different moods here in my environment, but tell you the truth, I see a lot of depression these days, and I try my best to rid of it. I see it in the form of chronic smoking, alcoholism, intense materialism, and of course the always evident complaints. If all fails to rid this environment of its unrealistic excuse to be depressed, I don't see it as a failure, because you'll always find a person who wakes up to an adventure every morning, and that'll be me. -Have a great summer, and when u're down, just imitate the funny looks on the smileys that reflect the happy you. -Peace
Spring Break and more Breakdancing
2006-03-27 04:39:55 Spring break was mad fun and I decided to go to San Francisco to meet up with my mother, hang out with the other side of the family, and of course breakdance.
The usual, just ate a lot of good food, im talking about four meals a day since I'm always hungry. But what made this break stand out was the fact that I looked for some breakdancers in the city and actually danced with them. I don't think I could tell anyone how much I learnt from them, whether it was new moves, views on life, how to live when you're a poor breakdancer etc. When I got back, I was mad hyped so I practiced so much harder and I think I got a few more moves right now. Thanks for being a great listener. -Out |
